American Military Mights and strength is a pillar of our national identity and organization.  It is only fitting that our freedoms our protected by a volunteer military. The country's finest men and women that choose to serve their nation.

My father and several of my uncles had long careers in the military.  According to my dad he made many of his life long friend in the Navy.  This was one of the greatest skills he learned during his 20 years.  Yet, I always wonder how military friendship actually works because the constant pressure and stress seem a challenging environment for creating empathy and connection.

Perhaps the most curious alliance my father forges was during his deployment in the Philippines. The USS Mauna Kea

Is the ship my father was assigned from the late sixties to the early seventies.  This ship was stationed in Subic Bay Philippines from 1967  until the end of 1970.  Throughout this timeline USS Mauna Kea offered munitions replenishment to combat ships in Vietnam.  My father spoke of his time on this ship without much detail to me and I am guessing it was a challenging time for him.  He admitted to my brothers that he did use marijuana to sleep during this time of his life.  He also had a several asian girlfirends during this era of his life including my mom has subic bay girlfirend and another one in Japan.  Not sure if there was a word polyamorous at this time but having more than one lover seems to be associated with social integration within transient populations and adopted at higher rates in military communities.
